About Us

Brain Tumour Focus brings together patients, NHS staff from Leeds, and OSCAR’s Charity with one goal: to transform brain tumour care across Yorkshire.

United by lived experience and frontline clinical expertise, we’re working to deliver innovative technologies and more compassionate care — starting with the UK’s first portable MRI scanner.

Mel Crossland

Mel Crossland

Survivor and Campaigner

Mel lives with an inoperable brain tumour and dedicates her time to fundraising for the MRI scanner. In January 2023, Mel's life changed forever when she was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour following a seizure and MRI scan. Today, while managing her condition with quarterly MRI scans, Mel has transformed her experience into a powerful mission. Her remarkable fundraising efforts have already secured £57,000 toward the portable MRI scanner.

He first discovered the portable MRI scanner at a Future of Surgery conference and was instantly captivated. Since then, he has been researching and advocating for Leeds to become the first UK hospital to acquire such a scanner, believing it will revolutionise patient care across the region. As the driving force behind this group, Ryan's passion and dedication have been instrumental in bringing this initiative to life.
